Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, also known as IIT Ropar, is an Institute of National Importance established in 2008. Originally mentored by IIT Delhi, the institute now functions from its permanent 501-acre campus located in Rupnagar, Punjab, on the banks of the Satluj River. Recognised by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, IIIT Ropar is ranked 176th in the QS Asian University Rankings,  Southern Asia 2026. IIT Ropar Admission

IIT Ropar admission 2026 is ongoing. IIT Ropar Admission for B.Tech programs is made based on performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Advanced) for Indian Nationals. Admissions to the M.Tech Programmes are made based on performance in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

Admission criteria for various IIT Ropar courses are given below:

• B.Tech: Candidates must have completed 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects and 75% marks (65% for SC/ST/PwD). Selection is based on the JEE Advanced exam (qualified via JEE Main) and JoSAA counselling.

• M.Tech: Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant stream with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). For selection, candidates must have a valid GATE score and participate in COAP counselling. IIT graduates with a CGPA of 8.0 or above are eligible for direct admission without a GATE score.

• PhD: Aspirants must have a master's degree in a relevant field with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Additionally, GATE/ UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET is typically required, followed by a written test and/or interview. Direct PhD is available for B.Tech graduates from CFTIs with a CGPA of 8.0 or above.
